Our control systems now use Flat Flex Cables (FFC) internally and Zero Insertion Force (ZIF) connectors. The connectors that we use have a locking ramp built in to ensure a positive clamping force is applied to the cable which ensures the cable will not vibrate loose under ardeous conditions. Should a cable or board ever need to be replaced it is important to open the clamp before removing the cable as this avoids damage to the cable and connector. Once the cable has been re-inserted the clamp can be closed to lock the cable in place as shown below.
